Jan’s Market Musings

MARKET MUSINGS What an absolutely wonderful Canada Day we had at the Farmers’ Market last Saturday. What you may not realize it that it was an historic day for us. That’s because, since the return of the parade to Aurora, we have always participated in the parade as Canada Day has not fallen on a Saturday, until now. So it was a new experience for us to have a farmers’ market on Canada Day and we didn’t know what to expect. Would people come after the parade or would they drift off to activities elsewhere? Well, people came in droves after the parade and we were extremely busy amid a sea of red shirts. The sun was shining, everyone was smiling, until some of us began to run short of [...]

Jan’s Market Musings

As many of you have noticed, Jan’s Country Pantry has not been at the market regularly this season. That is due to very low energy I’m experiencing because of very low iron. The iron pills aren’t getting the job done, so I will be having some iron infusions in early July and should be much improved after that. Thank you to those of you who have called to inquire about my well being. I hope to be at the market again very soon. The next new vendor I’d like to introduce is Cindy of Omtoria. Cindy was born in Etobicoke and spent her summers and school holidays playing in the forest and lake systems of the Ottawa Valley. Her love of nature and everything natural can be traced to those [...]

JAN’S MARKET MUSINGS

Considering the cool and damp weather we have experienced this spring, we were delighted to have a warm, sunny day on Saturday for the Farmers’ Market. We were quite busy as shoppers came to buy their produce, meat and baked items, as well as heirloom vegetable plants and flowers. Once their shopping is completed, most Market patrons make a decision as to which of our vendors will be making their breakfast or lunch. It can be a difficult decision because the aromas are so enticing. If you haven’t yet tried the new Dutch pancakes, I urge you to wait no longer as they are delicious and very different from Pascal’s fabulous crepes—we are lucky to have so many tasty options! The next new vendor I’d like to introduce you to [...]

Jan’s Market Musings

This past Saturday at the Farmers’ Market began on a cool but sunny day, which warmed as the day went on. Perhaps because of the cool weather, we were off to a slow start, but gradually things improved. Coffee sales were brisk, as they usually are in the morning. Customers have noticed that we no longer have Green River Coffee at the Market as Tricia has moved to Prince Edward County. We miss her and wish her well in her new home. Cathy, of Catharina’s Kitchen, has now added coffee to her menu, along with tea and hot chocolate. So, together with the coffee at Jan’s Country Pantry, there should be enough coffee for everyone. While it is still May and very early in the growing season, there is quite [...]

JAN’S MARKET MUSINGS

We’re back! According to the calendar, it’s spring and the month of May brings the return of the Aurora Farmers’ Market to its outdoor location on Wells Street and the Town Park. While we have lost a few vendors due to unforeseen circumstances, we have gained some new and exciting vendors and we are looking forward to a great season. Here is a list of the vendors you can expect to find at the 2017 Farmers’ Market. This list is incomplete as we are always receiving new applications and people’s circumstances change over time. Our farmers will include 19th Avenue Farm, Coopers CSA Farm, Howard’s Farm, Nature’s Rainbow, Oakridges Finest, Pioneer Brand Honey, Simpson Family Farm, Summerside Farm, Willowtree Farm, Pillitteri Estates Winery and a new cherry farm from the [...]
